Salinity is the second major obstacle under abiotic stress after drought that affects crop yield. Plant under salt stress exerts osmotic stress, ion toxicity and nutrition deficiency effects. These effects can be manifested at morphological, physiological/ biochemical and molecular level. People use different approaches to reduce the deleterious effect of salt on plant i.e. agronomic approaches, breeding approaches and biotechnology approaches. A combined approach of biotechnology and breeding approaches is most preferable than individual one as salt stress tolerance is complex trait.
